Good day all,
Our jobs nowadays almost always have these wide panel type assemblies on the ends of Islands that produce a "Leg" effect. Over the years we've gotten good at doing these but I think we can do better.
Please look at the attached image of two different panel assemblies. If your shop were going to build panel assemblies similar to these, how would you do it?
Specifically, I'm trying to find out:
1) Would you assemble them before painting them? They can get heavy.
2) If you assemble them AFTER painting, what sort of connectors would you use to attach them together?
3) Are there any slide or snap connectors that we should consider using to attach the vertical stiles to the shaker panel?(complete with dedicated joinery machines for cutting slots/ovals)?
Currently we assemble these items before painting using pocket screws and occasionally biscuits/glue.......because assembling them already painted invites a lot of opportunity for damaging the finish. However, lugging these things around in the spray booth is becoming really taxing, the more we increase in business.
I really think we could fly these through the paint booth quicker if we assembled them after painting.
What do you guys do? How would you approach this?
