Someone at Cabinet Vision mentioned they
charge a transfer fee. Approx 3000$
My question if someone does buy my software is it necessary to transfer the license.
I’m assuming the software would run on their machine with the security key. But of course they would not allowed to purchase
updates

I’ll have to talk to myself then. I do remember paying 7k for the software.

I believe David is right on this one. Take a look at the fine print of your "purchase" agreement. Most software is essentially leased, you have likely "bought" permission to use it, not to resell it.

As I work in the IT field as well as CAD/CAM I see a lot of software agreements and it is almost universal that while you may hold the physical item you do not "own" it but license the use of it. You could give it away or sell it but the next "owner" would probably have explain how they obtained it should they ever call for support. Most high value software no longer use a hardlock but rather phone home to validate. Long story short keep your software up to date and pay the yearly support fees, it is cheaper in the long run.

Cabinet Vision uses every opportunity they can to squeeze dollars out. They wanted something like $11,000, (I don't remember exactly), to transfer the key I bought with my cnc. Sure, it was less expensive than buying it outright, but not worth it to me. Throw on another $3k a year to maintain my privilege to use their software, and I went with more desirable options with business practices that I believe to be more inline with my own.

I had these same issues with other software in the past.

I no longer have issues as I have switched to Mozaik. been there for 4 years or so and no looking back. Full package yearly is less than yearly maintenance with the others. So ask yourself why put yourself through such pain??

A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment.     There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion.
