Biesse nesting problems

Hey I'm working on a Biesse skill with the nesting options installed, the software is Biesseworks var. 3.4.22.2192. I'm having two problems with the nesting software first the machine is only using one drill bit at a time but the 5 5mm drill bits are setup to be symmetric, and it does work in single programs without nesting, I'm not sure how to embed it as it would save a lot of time, but the documentation has ben little help so far.
The second problem is that the nesting software cuts each piece separately and will not combine cuts for parts that are right next to each other and will have two separate tooling paths for each piece.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I don't think you want the nesting software "combining cuts". Sounds like a great idea but I am afraid accuracy and part finish would suffer.

We did some testing on different rates of cut and found that tool changes and head movements are a major part of how long a nest takes. As for the dropping one bit not multiples. That needs to be addressed.

Not Biesse specific, but I had this trouble with our weeke once. It turned out to be the feed speeds were different between the holes in the program I was trying to run, and it was something that wasn't immediately obvious. We've also had the drill type be wrong (blind vs thru-hole), etc. Maybe its something simple like that?

I don't think the common cut nest is an option in BW.
For the drilling, you might take a look at the values in the optimization tab in settings.
In the project set up, is the 'keep internal sequence' box checked perhaps?

I can't help with the first problem.

You typically want parts to be cut in order from smallest to largest. As you make more cuts in the workpiece, you bleed more vacuum. The small pieces don't hold as well as the big ones, so you want those first.

Hello,
Please contact our support team at the Charlotte office (704-357-3131) they will help you with the drilling optimization issue.
Regarding nesting, common line is NOT a feature in bNest.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've had a few break throughs with the machine, I changed some setting that got the number of head movements down, and I changed the optimization type from job to time in the optimize setting tab. After that the symmetry drilling is now showing on the simulations for the nested patterns, but the machine is still refusing to use more then one 5mm drill bit for a bank of holes?

I'd be inclined to call support. I was going to suggest you check the symmetry pairings at the machine but if it works in singles....
I am assuming your simulation that's working is at the machine and not on an office copy.
We use "type of machining operation" most of the time and only ever had a problem when the pairings were incorrect.

How would someone tell if their copy is legit? The original pc died and was replaced then setup by a tech from Biesse a few years back.

Support can check that out in a hurry. There's usually a dongle and a code to activate it and whatever functions came in the package. They just fixed mine from a new computer install in the office. Took about 3 minutes on a remote access session.
They'll tell you what's legit from the machine serial number.

update for anyone that comes across this post I solved it changing the optimize tap from by job to time, has greatly decreased the machining time, and fixed the symmetry drilling, but unbeknownst to me there was a second admin password for Biesse works that was required to apply the changes I had made. So its solved thanks to anyone who posted a reply.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
