I have been asked by client if it is possible to work on refinishing heavy solid wood slab dining table in place,slab weights about 750-1,000lb
I need to solve the following:
• create spray booth (walls and ceiling)around table for sanding and catalyzed lac finish work.
• filtered exhaust with flexible ducting to window or door
• air intake
• sealable door into booth

Sounds like a big ass table. What's the closest door or window?

My first thought was to put some hardboard down to protect floors, get a couple 1000lb dollies, and see if you can wheel it close to a window so you can exhaust direct out of that.

Then you could just put some zip walls up and a zipper door.

But maybe this isnt feasible given the design of table or house layout.

boy that is a really big ask, try to spray a clear in a non spray area, they stink of a cv, then the floating dust, thinking about the dust one of the new fancy self contained sanders, forget their name but now the cv, would your client who must have some coin, consider if it is possible breaking down the table and bringing it to your shiop, just a thought possible solution for sanding, but all those coats of cv and solvent smell not sure if i would take that part of it on, a lot of the solvent is heavier than air, thinking about the electrical outlets even with an aa unit to reduct over spray.

Does it have to be a film build finish? You could strip the existing finish with aircraft stripper, sand, and use an oil finish like an Odie's oil or something similar. Would save a lot of hassle and worrying about exausting overspray and dust nibs in your finish. I found a link on youtube that might help

Hello Kin !
I can strip all the old finishing, to sand you can use a dust free sanding system , it works very well (https://www.mirka.com/en-us/us/us_dust-free_perfection/). And use water base stains and WB PU self sealer, it do not creat too much dust when sanding, in the end it will give you a very good resistence , similar to a solvent PU system

Get a zip wall system they work great. You can get them at most big box stores or ebay etc.....build it into your pricing

I do this type of site work and have special fans and flex hose to to it. I use plastic sheets on walls and also cloth tarps to make walls. I spray airless and have no issues. nothing you can do about the smell though, i do tell the homeowners it will stink.
