Custom Kitchen Magnet Paint

Hello all,
Need some advise on custom high end kitchen fridge panels.
Designer calls out for fridge panel to be painted with magnet paint, which to the best of my knowledge can't be any color or sheen I choose. Is there a way to prime with magnet paint and still be able to finish paint with kitchen color and product ( Ben Moore Advance ) and still have good magnetic strength? Has anyone used a strong magnetized primer then full topcoating and had decent magnet strength?
Everything I read says 1 or 2 light coats is possible but reduces magnetic strength. My goal is to have a magnetized fridge panel that has the exact finish as the rest of the kitchen. Another thought was do they make thin magnetized sheet goods that i could apply to the back of my 5 piece fridge panel and all the strength would pull through my Medex panel.

Advance is not a good choice of kitchen cabinet paint at the first place.Kitchen cabinet paint has to be bullet proof.Advance maybe a good paint i dont want to argue for less traffic areas but kitchen is not one of them.
2k poly,CV,Pc lacq. nothing else IMHO.

??.... Confused...have painted fridges since 1965 , on occasionally, as needed when damaged in transit.! Never heard of magnetic paint for fridges or stoves or any appliances that are made of metal.?? So please enlighten me on why a magnetic metal would need a magnetic" paint"??..are they now making them from aluminum.??

Sam,

The fridge is called a "panel ready" appliance. It does not come with a finished front, the panels are built to match the surrounding cabinetry and mechanically fastened to doors/drawer(s) of the fridge.

I'm confused.

They way the magnetic paints read they are ment to hold small magnets. That means the paint has a decent amount of iron in it.

Why not make your panel out of painted steel. Any magnet will stick to sheet steel.

Ben Moore Advance is a high quality trim paint. Not a good choice for a kitchen. Look for a pro grade KCMA approved finish. There are many easy to use high quality waterborne finishes. We primarily use ML Campbell.

Josh,
Thank you for the response, still you don't mention if these panels are made of steel or some other material..plastic, etc.. If there not made of a substrate, that has magnetic adhering properties, then I can understand why such a primer would be needed, may I suggest if these are not steel, iron, etc., that you look for ones that are, to me, this would seem like the best solution, but without doing a deep dive myself, and..if you have already done such, I will bow down to whatever you personally decide..
Sincerely,
Sam

I would make a test door with a painted 10 gauge steel plate and sanded to proper thickness wood backer panel so it fits your groove correctly to see if that works.
I am sure the fridge door hinges could handle that.

Here are some additional tips for using magnetic paint on kitchen cabinets:

Use a primer: A primer will help the paint to adhere better to the surface of the cabinets.

Sand the cabinets before painting: Sanding the cabinets will help to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to.

Apply two coats of paint: This will help to give the paint a more durable finish.

Use a high-quality paint: This will ensure that your cabinets have a long-lasting finish.

Magnetic paint is a great way to add a touch of personality to your kitchen cabinets. It is also a practical way to keep your kitchen organized. With a little bit of planning and effort, you can create custom kitchen magnet paint that will look great and function well for years to come.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
