6 head moulder - big ripples

Hi everyone! Hoping you can help! I’ve been working with a wadkin 6 head moulder since march as a complete novice, with relative success until this morning! The bar is producing big ripples across the top and below every inch or so. Please see photo! I have tried all I can think of but nothing is fixing the issue. Any ideas? Thanks, Alan

Looks very evenly spaced about every inch or so? Need to check the spindle bearings, spacing is wrong for a feed roll being out of whack. Are you getting jambs along with the marks?

Hi Dustin,
No Jambs, however I was doing some tests this afternoon and can hear a "dulling" or "wer down" noise every so often but doesnt seem to be in any rythem so thought it might be a belt issue. I will check the bearings and see how were doing there.

I have looked at some other profiles ran at the same time and it is severe on some and minimal on others, im lost!

Yes on checking the belts but I would pull them off and free spin the spindles. If they don't sound smooth or stop fairly quick, it's bearings. You may have to spin them quite a bit to hear a clunk in the bearing but that can be heard if you have a stethoscope or similar.

You can contact Weinig to attend their classes on molder training. Different makes, but the principles are the same. Or have a trainer come to your shop and train your staff.

Diagnose and process are hard to do in an online environment.

Alan, I have had a dull top head give me this showing up on the last bottom finish. Not a ripple that I could feel but that same pattern evenly spaced like that. My advice before tearing too much apart is sharpen all 4 horizontal heads. If you’re not needing your 1st top then just keep that one up out of the way. Dull tooling can effect the feed enough to give some head scratching finishes.
